Bregal Investments Appoints Alvar de Wolff as Managing Partner, Bregal Sphere

London and New York (June 5, 2023) - Bregal Investments (“Bregal”), an international private equity platform, today announced that Alvar de Wolff has been appointed Managing Partner of Bregal Sphere, Bregal’s newest platform that will be dedicated to impact investing, and will aim to raise and deploy capital behind companies and projects with a specific environmental and social purpose. As part of this newly formed position, Alvar will assume management responsibilities for Bregal Sphere Nature, the first strategy to be launched under the platform, focused on investing in nature-based solutions (“NbS”).
As a firm, responsible and sustainable investment practices have always been a core part of Bregal’s investment philosophy. We believe that Alvar is the right person to lead Bregal Sphere and will help the team play a powerful and influential role in the impact investment space.
Alvar most recently served as Bregal’s Head of ESG and Responsible Investing, where he established the platform’s internal ESG Team to oversee sustainability efforts across the platform, funds, and portfolio companies. During his tenure, he received several accolades, including being named as one of ‘Ten people who will shape sustainable private markets in 2022’ by New Private Markets.
Private capital has an important role to play in addressing our global challenges – particularly those around climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Investing in high-quality, genuine NbS can make a real difference for climate, nature and people – and I am excited to lead the team and develop Bregal Sphere Nature into an impactful Bregal strategy.
Alvar has been in the midst of discussions surrounding decarbonization in the private equity industry, co-chairing the initiative Climate International’s (“iCI”) working group that developed the Science Based Targets initiative’s guidance for the Private Equity Sector.
